While one man may conceive children with multiple women, having children while married "blesses" the offspring. Having someone to take care of you during your golden years might be the "selfish" reason, but should be to raise better citizens for the future society. The only reason I may have why I never supported same sex marriages is mainly because a vast majority NEVER last anyway. Some only take weeks to end. So why bother having a ceremony or a contract to begin with only to scratch it off and start all over? Also, I believe there also has to be some sense of "responsibility". Since the couple would not be able to reproduce through their lovemaking, they should also be required to offer a home to adopt children, and not simply keep pets and treat them like children.
